Pinon Hills Preserve
Acres: 11.8 acres
Central Colorado Conservancy accepted this parcel of land in 2014 as a natural buffer between the Pinon Hills Subdivision and BLM land. The property contains pinon-juniper forest and open grassland. A hilltop on the property provides scenic views of the surrounding mountains and the City of Salida.
At the current time no public access is available to the property. Central Colorado Conservancy is working in cooperation with other organizations to determine the feasibility of acquiring access through adjoining properties. If this can be worked out, the property will be open to the public for passive recreation uses.
Anyone interested in providing financial support to help acquire access can contact us at 719-539-7700 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Arkansas River Preserve
Central Colorado Conservancy purchased this property in partnership with the Trust for Public Land and the Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration Program. Funds used for this project originated from a settlement fund for the Super Fund site along the Arkansas River in Lake County. Working together we are making a real difference in restoring and bringing back the Arkansas River.
Although small this parcel has the Arkansas River passing through it and a section of the Leadville Stage Road. The property is open to walk-in fishing and nature study. If you visit please pack out all trash and be respectful of the property.
The Central Colorado Conservancy Board of Directors made the decision to purchase this property because of our commitment to protect the Arkansas River. We are working along the river in Lake, Chaffee, and Fremont counties. The river is the lifeblood of the region and provides water for agriculture, commercial white-water rafting and other outdoor recreation, fishing, and wildlife.
We are always looking to protect additional property along the Arkansas River and would be happy to talk to any landowners wanting to discuss conservation options.
